We are committed to finding new ways to help our members and guests consume less energy while enjoying our UK Club campsites. As part of our sustainability roadmap, we are trialling initiatives that put you in direct control of your electricity usage and costs.

Electric smart metering: Use less, save more

As part of our sustainability roadmap, we are trialling on-pitch electric smart metering to put you in direct control of your energy usage and costs.

Why use smart metering?

Smart metering allows us to lower base pitch fees by removing bundled electricity costs. You only pay for what you use, encouraging responsible consumption that benefits both your wallet and the environment.

Our initial trials showed a 40% reduction in electricity consumption, with savings passed directly to our members.

The addition of these two Club campsites is not the start of a wider roll-out, but an important opportunity for us to gather further usage information and gather your feedback on electric smart-metered pitches.

How does Electric Smart Metering work?

Similar to a smart meter you might have at home, the bollards measure exactly how much electricity you consume when hooked up to your allocated socket. Instead of a national monthly calculated rate built into the pitch price, you only pay for the precise amount of electricity you use, and no longer for the usage of everyone else around you.

In the latter part of 2025, we completed the first phase of the trial, and based on members' valuable feedback, we introduced a new, bespoke system. Making it easier, more convenient and faster for you to connect and then manage your power usage during your stay.

It's designed to be simple and intuitive, featuring an easy-to-use mobile app and an on-site kiosk for those without a smart device.

With this new system, you no longer need to top up your electricity credits. Instead, payment will be taken automatically for the electricity you've used when you unplug from the socket. You can also track your usage in real time and view your account history for full transparency (if you set up an account on the app), or you can track single-session use on the kiosk.

Are site fees lower now that electricity is metered?

Yes; wherever we have a smart-metered pitch, the base pitch fee has been adjusted downwards to reflect that electricity is paid for separately by the member or guest.

How much can I expect to pay for electricity?

You only pay for what you consume. The total cost depends entirely on your personal usage; using less means you save money.

A note on our energy pricing

We want to be completely transparent about how we calculate electricity costs. Because we operate as a business, our rates are dictated by the commercial market and are not protected by the domestic price cap.

However, we promise fair pricing: the government mandates that no one can profit from reselling electricity. The rate you pay is the rate the Club pays, plus the required 5% VAT. (VAT exemption period from 1st Oct 2026 to 31st March 2027, as per government mandate). As market prices fluctuate, our rates will adjust to match the actual cost.

How it works: Connecting to power

We simplified the connection process in November 2025. You can now connect power using either our dedicated mobile app or new on-site payment kiosks.

Before you travel: Download the App

To speed up your arrival, we recommend setting up the app before you leave home.

    1. Download the CAMC Electric App from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. You can scan the QR code below to open the links on your mobile device.
    2. Open the app, tap the Account button, and enter your details to create your account and select your communication preferences.

On Arrival: Two ways to connect

Once you have arrived at your pitch, choose one of the following methods to turn on your power.

Option 1: Using the CAMC Electric App

    1. Open the Electric app on your device and select the campsite you are staying at.
    2. Plug your hook-up cable into the socket allocated to your pitch number on the bollard.
    3. In the app, tap "Connect power".
    4. Select the socket number you have just plugged into.
    5. Accept the terms of service on the payment screen.
    6. For a fast checkout, use Apple Pay or Google Pay, or simply enter your card details. Please complete any bank verification steps if prompted. (Note: the payment is processed only when you unplug.)

Option 2: Using the On-Site Kiosk

    1. Plug your hook-up cable into the socket allocated to your pitch number on the bollard.
    2. Go to the campsite kiosk (check the site map for its location).
    3. Tap "Connect power" on the screen and select your socket number.
    4. Accept the terms of service on the payment screen.
    5. Tap your chosen payment card against the payment machine. (This is the card that will be charged when you unplug).

Final Step (Both Methods)

  • Once your payment method is verified, power will turn on for your selected socket.

Note: You may see a nominal £10 pending charge on your bank statement. This is just a verification check and will not be taken.

  • On the Kiosk screens, you will be asked if you want to be able to check on your usage:
    • Yes - with Account: Enter your account email or mobile number, so you can view your usage.
    • Yes - This session only: in which case you will need to add a 4-digit number to access this usage information at any stage whilst still connected.
    • No Thanks: you’ll just be billed when you unplug

Will my pitch fee reduce?

Yes. The pitch fee no longer includes the cost of electricity. This puts you in control, so you can save money and reduce your environmental impact.

Will someone be there to help?

Yes. Our site team will be on hand to help. The system has been designed to be intuitive and simple based on member feedback, so we hope you won't need much assistance.

Why is the electric unit cost more than I pay at home?

Club campsites are treated as commercial locations by electrical companies and are therefore subject to a higher charge rate than domestic properties.
