Birch Hill is the only Certificated Location ever to have won both the Caravan and Motorhome Club's National First Place CL of the Year Award and, in a different year, the Club's national Sustainability Award.

Set in peaceful North Shropshire countryside just one mile from Ellesmere, Birch Hill offers panoramic views across nine counties of England and North Wales. Our five spacious pitches are level, generously spaced and set on grass-reinforced hardstanding, combining the appearance of a traditional grass site with the practicality of an all-weather surface.

Owned and managed by fellow caravanners Ian and Janet, Birch Hill has welcomed touring guests since 1982. Many visitors return year after year for the warm welcome, peaceful atmosphere and outstanding views that make the site such a special place to stay.

Ellesmere is known as "Shropshire's lake district", with its unique collection of tranquil glacial meres, abundant wildlife and miles of waterside walks. The town sits on the beautiful Llangollen Canal and is a favourite destination for canal boaters, walkers, cyclists and nature lovers. We regularly welcome former canal boaters who stay here to reconnect with old friends and familiar waterways.

Just a mile away, Ellesmere offers independent shops, cafés, traditional pubs and restaurants. Guests enjoy strolling around The Mere, exploring the Wharf and Marina, watching narrowboats on the canal or relaxing in one of the town's characterful hostelries.

The historic Ellesmere Yard provides a fascinating glimpse into more than 200 years of canal engineering and heritage. Visitors looking for something more active can explore The Mere by paddleboard, canoe or kayak, while cyclists enjoy the quiet country lanes and scenic routes that criss-cross the surrounding countryside.

Birdwatchers are particularly well catered for. The Mere is home to a renowned heronry and a wide variety of resident and visiting waterbirds, while the popular Heronwatch project offers unique close-up views of nesting herons during the breeding season. Wildlife can also be enjoyed from the site itself, where guests regularly spot Hares, Buzzards, Red Kites and a variety of farmland birds.

Birch Hill is ideally placed for discovering the wider attractions of Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales. National Trust properties, historic market towns, gardens and country estates are all within easy reach. The Ironbridge Gorge UNESCO World Heritage Site, now part of the National Trust, makes an excellent day trip and can be reached in under an hour.

We are proudly dog-friendly and welcome well-behaved dogs. The surrounding area offers numerous countryside, canal-side and waterside walks for both two-legged and four-legged visitors.

Open all year, exclusively for Caravan and Motorhome Club members. Please check our availability and book online through our website for the quickest response.
